My Hack For Writing Long-form Content

You might’ve seen my post on Instagram, but I have a time saving hack I need to share. Let's debunk the myth that creating engaging, long-form content has to be done sitting behind a computer. Let's be real: writing valuable content is a great way to build trust with your audience, become an authority, and scale the ranks on SEO, but it can be daunting if writing isn't your first language or you lack the focused time to hash out the perfect words.

If you're one of those people who would rather talk than write, or are often on the go, I've got a content-writing hack just for you. The best part? It can be done on-the-go with no computer screen required.

Writing long-form content requires time and focus, two things that can be sparse as a working mom and busy entrepreneur. Not to mention, I find that talking it out comes SO much easier to me than writing — anyone else?

This method has been such a game changer for me because it can be done on-the-go with little time sitting behind the screen. Here’s what’s working for me:

  1. Voice Memos

The voice memo app on your iPhone is about to be your new sidekick when you’re driving to meetings or multitasking on-the-go. I compile a brief outline of what I want to talk about and then press record. There’s a pause/play button, too, so there’s no pressure to get it perfect the first time.

  2. Voice Typing

In Google Docs, there’s a handy feature called Voice Typing. I open up my Google Doc, press play on my voice memo, and it does the work of transcribing for me hands free. I hit play while I’m making my morning coffee or swapping the laundry at home. Win, win.

3. ChatGPT

As a final step, I pull the transcribed copy into @chatgpt and ask it to “pare down and copy edit” the text. Naturally, when working from a voice recording, there will be some ‘umms’ and ‘likes’ lingering, so this helps to consolidate your text and get it to the finish line.

In Summary

Once you’ve done these steps, it’s time to get your content out into the world. It's up to your discretion how much more you’d like to copy edit, but I’ve found if I nail the voice recording, it's pretty painless to get it to the finish line and out into the world.

I’ve been LOVING this tool to help me work smarter, not harder. Let me know if you try this out + if you have any must-know hacks like this!

If you're ready to give your brand the attention it deserves, I'd love to help you bring your idea to life.
